Comforting others
The Free Spirit · Story 10 of 15

“Don't talk about your beliefs. Show them.”
Why this page matters
When a friend is crying, children often rush in with “don’t cry” or try to fix it on the spot. What usually helps more is sitting down next to them and staying. That is a kind thing they can do even when nothing can be fixed.
Children learn to comfort others from the way they are comforted. When you sit with them in a sad moment instead of hurrying it along, you show them a way of doing it they can use with a friend.
