Epictetus reimagined as a child discovering inner freedom. A story about what we can and cannot control.
Look Inside

Every book opens with a note for parents — real philosophy, real quotes, real conversations.
About This Book
Epictetus was born into slavery and became one of the most influential philosophers in history. His core teaching was simple and radical: some things are up to us, and some things are not. Happiness comes from knowing the difference.
The Free Spirit follows a young Epictetus through fifteen scenes that every child will understand. A rainy day that ruins outdoor plans. A race that doesn't go his way. A friend who moves away. Each scene is built around a real quote and a real choice: focus on what you can't change, or find what you can.
Like every Little Thinkers book, each spread pairs a coloring page with a story page. Your child colors. You read. The quote is for you. The reflection question is for both of you.
A book about the kind of freedom no one can take away.
How It Works
Every spread has two pages. On the left: a real philosopher's quote, a short read-aloud story, and one reflection question that turns the page into a conversation between you and your child. On the right: a coloring illustration with bold outlines for little hands. The stories are for your child. The quotes are for you. The questions are for both of you, together.
