Only time is truly ours.

Where this comes from
Seneca’s very first letter to his friend Lucilius, nearly 2,000 years ago, is about time. Everything else we have really belongs to someone else, he wrote, but our time is ours, and it slips away easily, so look after it.
How you could say it to a five-year-old
“One more thing before bed, and you pick. A story or a song?”
Seneca, Letters 1.3. We put these lines into plain English ourselves, staying close to the original and to public-domain translations.
